Monroe City Councilwoman Margie Rodriguez plans to step down early from her position May 31. Her four-year term was scheduled to end December 2011.

She told her colleagues she planned to resign because she’s taking a job that requires her to move out of the city, said city administrator Gene Brazel.

The city is now searching for a replacement.

Those interested in serving on the City Council must submit a letter declaring their interest and reasons for seeking the post. The letter should include background information and indicate what skills, experience and concerns the candidate would bring to the council.

Applicants must be a registered voter who has lived inside the city limits of Monroe for at least a year.

Letters must be received at City Hall no later than 5 p.m. June 7. Interviews are scheduled to take place at the June 14 council meeting.

The candidate who receives at least the majority vote of the council shall be appointed to fill the vacant position, serving until a candidate is elected at the next general election.

Questions should be directed to 360-863-4524. Send letters of interest to: Eadye Martinson, city of Monroe, 806 W. Main Street, Monroe, WA 98272.
