Pause in Silvana
It should be all fun at the Silvana Fair Saturday, but pause for one moment of remembrance. They’ve created a Memorial Garden, says Roy Strotz, to honor seven fair board members who have died since 2000.
An opening ceremony for the fair is planned at 9 a.m. at Viking Hall, 1331 Pioneer Highway. The fair closes at 5 p.m.
The garden will be about 40-by-40 feet, he says.
“It will include a lamppost, bench, tree and sewing machine,” Strotz says. “It will also include three flag poles and lots of plants. We have been working on this for three years, and finally it will be completed. We have had several businesses supporting us by donating dirt, excavating work, hydroseeding and cement.”
Henna in Stanwood: Krysteen Lomonaco, a henna artist, offers “Mehndi Madness, the art of using henna to create temporary tattoos,” at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW in Stanwood.
It’s a teen summer program.
Keep trash from bears: Several people living in the Sky Harbor Estates neighborhood east of Sultan Basin Road have reported seeing bears in recent days. Nick Jorg, an agent with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, has handed out a flier with safety tips for people living in the area.
The best thing they can do is to keep their trash cans in a secure spots, such as a garage or shed, he said.
Consider taking down bird feeders.
Other tips include cleaning barbecue grills after use and storing them in a secure place and picking up ripe fruit from around trees and shrubs.
