Sawdust pile burning at Port of Longview

LONGVIEW — Firefighting agencies from Washington and Oregon are working together to put out a fire burning sawdust piles as high as 20 feet.

KGW-TV reported emergency crews were called to the Port of Longview around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The sawdust piles are spread over two acres.

Fire Chief Jay Tappan of Columbia River Fire & Rescue in Oregon said it’s hard to tell how long the fire will burn. He says It could smolder for a few days. There have been no reports of injuries.

Sawdust is used as pulp for manufacturing paper products.
