What’s baking at fair

Monday is the day to enter baked goods and home preserved foods at the Evergreen State Fair.

Take entries from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to the Display Hall, Building 500, at 14405 179th Ave. SE in Monroe. Use Door E for baking and Door G for home preserved foods.

Entries may be submitted by anyone and there are no entry fees.

Nominate a ‘Voice’: Everett public radio station KSER (90.7 FM) is accepting nominations for its Voice of the Community Awards.

The annual awards recognize people who speak up about cultural concerns and improve their communities.

The 2010 KSER Voice of the Community Awards winners were Kim Buike for his work with the United Way of Snohomish County, the Tulalip Tribes Charitable Funds for their community support and Frank DeMiero for his accomplishments in music education.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Sept. 12.

Free play performance: The theatrical touring group, Last Leaf Productions, is planning a free performance of the Hans Christen Andersen tale, “The Emperor and the Nightingale.”

The free program is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W.
