Jade Borseth

Stanwood | Sr.

2010 recap: Placed 46th in the Class 4A state meet in 19 minutes, 35 seconds

2011 outlook: Borseth’s high finish at the Class 4A state meet came as a freshman when she finished fifth. As a sophomore she battled a hip injury and last year she was h

ealthy, but also playing select soccer and basketball during cross country. Coach Jordan Sneva says that Borseth is “all in” for cross country this season and that she expects a lot of herself this year as she leads the Spartans in her senior year.

JessicaRawlins Jackson | So.

2010 recap: Placed 47th in the Class 4A state meet in 19 minutes, 36 seconds

2011 outlook: Head coach Alan Briggs said that Rawlins “shocked” the cross country community as a freshman. Rawlins older sister Carinne invited Jessica to come out and try cross country a year ago and it paid off. She began last season as the seventh fastest runner on the varsity team, but finished the season as the top runner on a team that finished 10th at the Class 4A state meet. Briggs said Rawlins has a smooth running stride and makes running look effortless. He predicts that Rawlins will improve on her 47th place finish at state a year ago and be in the top 20 runners in the state this year.

ChristinaWicker Oak Harbor | Jr.

2010 recap: Placed 25th in the Class 3A state meet in 19 minutes, 34 seconds

2011 outlook: Wicker’s time of 19:34 at the Class 3A state meet a year ago shaved nearly three minutes off her state time as a freshman and she led the Wildcats to a third place finish as a team at state. Coach Eric Peterson says Wicker will once again be the top runner on this year’s team and will look to her to provide guidance and inspiration to the other girls in practice. Peterson says a reasonable goal for Wicker is to crack the top 15 at the state meet.

KaceyKemper King’s | So.

2010 recap: Placed fifth in the Class 1A state meet in 19 minutes, 43 seconds

2011 outlook: Head coach Rod Wilcox said that Kemper’s improvement throughout her freshman year was gradual. She didn’t run cross country as an eighth grader, but came back last year to place fifth at the Tri-District championships and followed that up with a fifth place finish at the Class 1A state meet. Kemper, who is also actively involved in drama did not train year round as most runners who place at state do. Wilcox said that he is excited to see what Kemper can accomplish once she realizes how talented she is and what her potential will be with more off-season training.

KatieBianchini Glacier Peak | Jr.

2010 recap: Placed third at the Class 3A state meet in 18 minutes, 3 seconds

2011 outlook: Glacier Peak head coach Dan Parker says that Bianchini is “without a doubt the best No.2 runner in the state and probably in the nation.” She has spent the off-season both training in track and rehabbing from injuries. At the team’s Orcas Island Cross Country Camp in July, Bianchini broke her own Mt. Constitution record of 41:16 by becoming the first girl to run a sub-40 minute race with a 38:59. Parker says Bianchini is a natural born leader and never stops working to improve.
