Everett: City Council to discuss budget
The Everett City Council plans to hold a budget revenue workshop as part of its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, City Hall chambers, 3002 Wetmore Ave.
City leaders also are scheduled to take a look at a draft of a second amendment
to this year’s budget.
It’s fairly common for cities to make amendments to their budgets in order to adjust to revenues or unexpected expenses.
The budget amendment proposal includes decreasing both expected revenues and spending by $186,655.

Apply for grant for art projects and programs
The City of Everett Cultural Arts Commission is accepting applications for cultural arts grants to pay for art programs and other projects.
The city hopes to foster art for the enjoyment of the entire community. All the projects must take place within Everett city limits and be open to the general public.
The city has $20,000 available for programming grants, $20,000 available for capital grants as well as grants for waiving the rental fee at the Everett Performing Arts Center, said Carol Thomas, Everett’s cultural arts manager.
Anyone may apply for the money, including arts organizations, artists, schools and other organizations. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Oct. 21.

Senior center classes discuss how life began
The Everett location of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the University of Washington offers the class, “How Life Began and Evolved,” noon to 2 p.m. starting Sept. 27 at The Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave.
The course is taught by Dr. Winston Brill, who teaches with humor to get his message across in an unforgettable way.
The institute offers short courses and special events on a variety of topics. Courses are taught by seasoned UW instructors, retired UW faculty and community experts.
The class costs $35. To take a course, an annual $85 membership is required.

Monroe: School district seeks input
The Monroe School District wants to hear from the community about different topics affecting local schools such as the future of the learning levy, which expires in December 2012. This February, the district plans to ask voters to renew the levy.
There are five “community conversations” scheduled in the next couple of weeks. The first one is for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Frank Wagner Elementary School library, 639 W. Main St.
Other meetings are set in the libraries of different schools in Monroe and Snohomish. The next one is scheduled for Wednesday at Fryelands Elementary School. Other meetings are on Sept. 27 at Maltby Elementary School, Sept. 28 at Salem Woods Elementary, and Oct. 3 at Chain Lake Elementary School.
All meetings are at 7 p.m.

Snohomish: Classic cars on display Sunday
The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce is organizing the 29th annual Snohomish Classic Car & Hot Rod Display scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Sunday in the city’s downtown.
About 600 antique and classic cars are expected at this free event. Another events include music, a street fair in the Carnegie Building’s parking lot, and an Elvis impersonator.
Anyone interested in entering their car can do it at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the corner of Lincoln and First streets.

Health and fitness fair at park
Snohomish County Parks and Recreation plans to host its 15th annual Family Health & Fitness Day this weekend to promote family involvement in physical activity.
From 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Willis Tucker Community Park, people can learn more about walking, running and biking on Snohomish County’s extensive regional trails. Zumba and martial arts demonstrations are planned. Staff from the Mill Creek Y intend to be on hand. County park rangers will lead guided walks through Willis Tucker Park to discuss native plants and animals.
The Willis Tucker event is one of hundreds planned across the nation, as part of Family Health & Fitness Day USA, a public-private partnership organized by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information.
The park is at 6705 Puget Park Drive, Snohomish.
