Restoration project in Sultan: EarthCorps, Snohomish County Parks & Recreation and the city of Sultan are looking for folks to help clean up the site of a future park.
The work party is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Fishermen’s Park on N. Skyview Drive in Sultan. When completed, the park will have a new campground for tents and recreation vehicles, access to the Skykomish River and a boat launch.
The group will work to remove invasive plant species and other nonnative plants threatening the health of the ecosystem.
Participants will learn the history of the site and hear about the Puget Sound area’s urban forests and ecosystems.
For more information, contact Chris LaPointe, EarthCore volunteer program manager at 206-322-9296, ext. 217.
Support cancer research: Everett firefighters plan to don special duty shirts this week as part of a “Supporting Cancer Awareness” campaign.
The campaign, which is organized by the firefighter’s Local 46, coincides with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, union president Paul Gagnon said.
The black shirts have pink lettering and a “For A Cure” logo.
The firefighters hope that wearing the shirts will get people thinking about breast cancer, Gagnon said.
