Sultan rejects proposal for traffic cameras

Traffic-enforcement cameras won’t be coming to the city of Sultan.

A City Council subcommittee explored the idea but ultimately decided against it, city administrator Deborah Knight said Monday. The idea was never brought before the council as a whole.

Research showed that the revenue from violations wouldn’t cover the cost of running the cameras and processing tickets, Knight said.

Automated traffic-enforcement in Sultan came up earlier this fall because city leaders were receiving complaints about speeding in city limits. Cameras could have been posted in school-zones to nab speeders. Red-light cameras weren’t explored.
