GOLD BAR — Residents of Goldbar are being asked to boil their water for the next few days.
The state Department of Health is advising residents to boil tap water to be used for drinking and washing. This is a safety precaution until tests determine that water is safe to drink after a pipe broke, city officials said.
On Wednesday afternoon, a service line to a fire hydrant was ruptured at the intersection of Lewis Avenue and 5th Street. The break may have been caused by a tree root.
City staff and firefighters shut down the valve, leaving 2,200 people without water, and fixed the leak Thursday morning.
By 5 a.m., water pressure was restored to all parts of town.
