If tartar is accumulating between your pearly whites, it may be because the manufacturers of Reach flossing products hit a backlog recently in getting the product to markets.

Shelves at Walgreens and other local drugstores have been empty for weeks. There are other brands, but Reach is a big part of this market.

Johnson &Johnson, the New Jersey-based consumer products company that makes this brand of floss, confirmed the delays.

“The timing of shipments of Reach dental floss was delayed,” spokeswoman Jodie Wertheim said in an e-mail.

But good dental hygiene isn’t going to suffer, she assured.

“We are now shipping product on an expedited schedule,” she said.
