MOUNT VERNON — Glacier Peak junior goalkeeper Jesus Mendoza kept a clean sheet and made three saves in the penalty shootout to lead the Grizzles to a 3A District 1 tournament win and set-up a date with Shorewood in the title game for a shot at a state berth.

“(Mendoza) has experience and confidance and he guessed correctly,” said Glacier Peak head coach Shannon Murray.

Branson Corwin, Peter Vizzoni and Michael Mikulsky all converted their penalty kicks for the Grizzlies and Mendoza stopped the fifth Mount Vernon shooter to clinch the win.

The Grizzlies will play the Thunderbirds on Thursday at Shoreline Stadium.
