The Timberwolves fireballer used deft control to keep Snohomish hitters guessing, throwing 53 of his 71 pitches for strikes, and holding the Panthers scoreless for six innings in Jackson’s 3-0 win in a first-round 4A District 1 Tournament game.

Softball | Granite Falls
The Tigers hurler pitched Granite Falls to victory in three games last week, including a complete-game performance in which she scattered six hits and struck out seven to help the Tigers beat then-first place Cedarcrest. Martinez also pitched complete games in Granite Falls’ wins over South Whidbey and Coupeville as the Tigers went 4-0 and wrapped up a district berth.

Boys soccer | Glacier Peak
The Grizzlies forward/midfielder scored the go-ahead goal 1 minute into the second half to propel Glacier Peak to a first-round win over Marysville Getchell in the 3A District 1 Tournament. Corwin also had the game-deciding goal in the Grizzlies’ 2-1 win over Shorecrest earlier in the week that helped GP lock up a district berth.

Girls tennis | Stanwood
The Spartans No. 2 doubles team came from behind and won a tight tiebreaker in the second set to lead Stanwood to a 4-3 win over Snohomish in a match between the top two teams in the Wesco North. Shaughnessy and Rich beat Alexa Armbruster and Amy Stevens 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 as the Spartans took the inside track on winning the North title.

Golf | Jackson
The Timberwolves junior golfer shot a 71 and 72 to win the Bill Egber’s Memorial Tournament at Skagit Golf and Country Club on Friday. Cornett eagled the first hole and birdied the final hole to beat Juanita’s Frank Garber and Mount Vernon’s Brennan Emory by a stroke.
AARON ROE AND BROOKE KINGMA

The Timberwolves freshman harriers both set personal records in winning the 1,600-meter boys and girls event, respectively, at the Everett City Meet. Roe shaved nearly 20 seconds off his best time this season (4:25.85) and Kingma took off a little more than 20 seconds in setting her personal best (5:06.14). Roe, who also won the 3,200, beat out teammate Conner Hayes by a little more than a second. Kingma beat teammate Jessica Rawlins by nearly 8 seconds.
