Got scrap metal?
People are being asked to bring their scrap metal to a fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday at Madison Elementary School, 616 Pecks Drive, Everett. The scrap metal drive put on by the View Ridge/Madison Neighborhood Association and B-n-B Recycling is raising money for a new playground at the school. The playground is being planned to honor Valerie Dede, who was a teacher at Madison for 24 years, and worked in the Everett School District for 42 years. She died suddenly last summer.
People can bring almost anything made of metal to the drive. Refrigerators will be taken at a charge of $25. Televisions are charged $10. A truck will be available to pick up metal items weighing 500 pounds or more.
Volunteers are still needed. Call Sherri Grinage at 425-385-5991 or 425-385-5900 for more information.
Model airplanes soar: Between 25 and 30 people from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada are expected to participated at the second annual Cascade Scale Rally starting today until Sunday.
The competition is set to have model airplanes between 6 and 10 feet long compete in aerobatics.
The free family event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cascade Family Flying Airfield, 11021 Old Snohomish-Monroe Road, just 2½ miles south of Snohomish. Food and beverages can be purchased at the event.
