SPANAWAY — Pierce County deputies shot and killed a man they say rammed their patrol car with a stolen pickup truck at Spanaway.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the deputies spotted the truck about 1 a.m. Thursday spinning around and smoking tires. A license check showed the truck had been stolen Wednesday in University Place.
When they attempted to stop the truck, Troyer says it rammed the patrol car twice. Troyer says as the driver attempted to ram the patrol car a third time the deputies got out and fired their guns. The truck crashed into a utility pole. The 31-year-old man was declared dead at a hospital.
The News Tribune reports representatives from the Pierce County prosecutor’s office responded to the scene, standard procedure in deadly officer-involved shootings.
