YAKIMA — A Superior Court judge has sentenced a 23-year-old man to life in prison without parole for beating and raping a Yakima woman before fatally running over her with a stolen car.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported that Aaron Briden was sentenced Thursday for his aggravated first-degree murder conviction in Shelley Kinter’s 2009 death.
Judge Ruth Reukauf heard the case without a jury and handed down the sentence. She called the crime one of the worst in her experience as a judge.
Because prosecutors opted not to seek the death penalty, life in prison without parole was the only possible sentence upon conviction.
