Q: Did you grow up in Sultan?

A: Yes. I’ve always lived here.

Q: What is like growing up in a small town?

A: It’s definitely different. You know everyone. I think going away to college will be a shock because I’ve grown up knowing everyone.

Q: You have a 4.0 GPA and scored 2000 on the SAT. Why is doing so well in school important to you?

A: I’m really competitive. I’ve always wanted to be the best. I also think if I do well it will help prepare me for success in the future. I also knew that I needed to win scholarships to help pay for college.

Q: Who influenced you the most to be an accomplished student?

A: My parents have been the main driving force. I’ve wanted to do well so they would be proud of me.

Q: Your principal said you’ve taken every college-level course offered at the high school. Can you tell us about your coursework?

A: I’ve taken calculus. I’ve taken every science class the school offered. I’ve also taken advanced placement literature, language, government and biology.

Q: Why do you think it’s important to work so hard in high school?

A: It sets you up for success. If I work hard now, working hard in college should come easier. I want to be successful in the future.

Q: Where is your best place to do homework?

A: I usually do my homework at the dining room table. It’s a central location. I can plug in my laptop and I can have a snack while I’m doing homework. I average about 1 to 1½ hours of homework a day.

Q: What is a Washington Aerospace Scholar and when did you receive that honor?

A: It’s a statewide program that I signed up for last year. You take mini lessons and have homework about the history of space exploration and the future of space exploration.

It’s something I did on my own time outside of school. I’m interested in astronomy.

Q: Besides being a good student, you are also a student athlete. What sports do you play?

A: I play volleyball for the high school. In the off-season I play for the Boys &Girls Club.

Q: Why have you participated in sports?

A: Again, I’m really competitive. I also like being active. I love the sport. It’s so much fun.

Q: What else do you do for fun?

A: I’m an avid reader. I have four full bookcases in my bedroom. I like to watch TV. I also like to run.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: I’m going to Whitman College. I’m planning on studying astrophysics. I’m also going to try out for the volleyball team.

Q: Why astrophysics?

A: I like astronomy and I like physics. Astrophysics reveals the world around us. I’m a curious person. I’ve always been curious and astrophysics explains how the whole universe works.
