MONROE — Three Monroe firefighters were taken to a local hospital Monday night after a house fire in the 23100 block of Highway 203, south of town.

The fire was reported about 5:38 p.m., Monroe Fire Marshal Mike Fitzgerald said.

One firefighter suffered possible heat exhaustion at the scene, Fitzgerald said. One suffered a head injury, and another suffered a hand injury.

The firefighters’ injuries weren’t believed to be life threatening. No other injuries were reported.

The two-story house was a total loss. The American Red Cross was assisting at least three people who were displaced.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Parts of the highway were closed for hours.
