The 27th annual Puget Sound Festival of Bands: Sponsored by the Cascade High School Bands and Color Guard Boosters Organization, the event is Oct. 25 at Everett Memorial Stadium, 3900 Broadway, Everett. Cascade and 24 other high schools are participating. Preliminary competition begins at 8 a.m., with Cascade performing at 4:15 p.m. to end the preliminary competition. Finals competition begins at 6 p.m. Concessions, a bake sale and souvenirs available, with proceeds to the local booster group to pay for musical instruments for the school and send Cascade students to festivals and competitions. Tickets are $40 for a family of four, adults are $15 all day or $10 for the finals. Discounts available for seniors, military, college students, youth. Seattle Rock Orchestra: The “Battle in the Barn IV” at the fairgrounds in Monroe features a pre-fight concert by the Seattle Rock Orchestra. The concert is at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 in the main exhibit building on the fairgrounds. Tickets are available at the door for $35 to $65. Monroe Concert Band: The band celebrates its 10th anniversary with a free concert at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Wagner Performing Arts Center, 639 W. Main St., Monroe. Reception following. The band had its start 10 years ago with a dozen members. Today, 50 players are involved. The band has produced 40 of its own concerts, as well as performing at the Evergreen State Fair, Naval Station Everett and the Warm Beach Lights of Christmas.
Reformation Day Hymn Festival: Presented at 7 p.m. Oct. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. The free festival features the choral and instrumental music of Bach, Handel, Mozart and the hymns of Martin Luther. Performers include organist Norma Aamodt-Nelson, the chamber ensemble reSound conducted by Stephen Marshall-Ward of Trinity Lutheran College in Everett, and Silke Harper on alto and soprano recorders. A pre-concert lecture on Martin Luther will be offered by Thomas Harper, a University of Washington music faculty member, at 6 p.m. More information is at www.trinitylutheranchurch.com.
Hey Marseilles: The band, founded at the University of Washington, brings its blend of rock, indie, folk, chamber and pop music to Edmonds Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2. The band has released two albums and has performed at Bumbershoot, Lollapalooza, the Newport Folk Festival and the Firefly Music Festival. Camano Junction big band music Halloween Dance, 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Tickets are $15 admission and available at the door.
Peter Ali: The artist offers a free flute concert in honor of Native American Heritage Month at 2 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Everett Public Library Auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave. Ali will play a variety of Native American flutes, as well as a Norwegian and an Egyptian flute. He will demonstrate music of these cultures, in particular the plains and woodland tribes of North America, and touch on his own background. His father was a Moroccan Berber and his mother a Yaqui Indian of Sonora. For information, call 425-257-8000.
Making a living as a musician: Pianist Lisa Bergman and violinist Svend Ronning will perform their music and talk about how they make a living as professional musicians at 12:20 p.m. Nov. 6 at Everett Community College’s Baker Hall, room 120. The event is free and open to the public. EvCC is located at 2000 Tower St. in north Everett.
Pacific Northwest Folklore Society free concert: The duo Pint &Dale, 2 p.m. Nov. 16, Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. William Pint and Felicia Dale bring a blend of traditional and modern music reflecting the vitality of people who live and work on the sea. With vocals, guitar, octave mandolin, Irish pennywhistles, percussion and the vielle-à-roue or hurdy gurdy, Pint &Dale bring an energetic and contemporary spirit to their material. Call 425-257-8000.

Brandi Carlile: The singer performs with the Seattle Symphony at 8 p.m. Nov. 28, 29 and 30 at Benaroya Hall, Seattle. Ticket prices range from $55 to $106. Carlile previously has sold out Benaroya Hall six times and her 2010 performance with the symphony was recorded and released by Columbia Records as the album “Live At Benaroya Hall With The Seattle Symphony.” Tickets are available at www.benaroyahall.org or call 206-215-4747. The jazz, pop and Latin combo Pink Martini plays with the orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 and 22.

“Reelin’ In the Years”: VocalPoint! Seattle is an ensemble of young people drawn from high schools throughout the Puget Sound region. They will perform rock tunes from the 1970s at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway Ave., Seattle.

Evergreen Community Orchestra: Join the orchestra from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the Music Hall, next to Macy’s inside the Everett Mall, 1402 SE Everett Mall Way. New conductor is Marcin Paczkowski, a doctoral student at the University of Washington. The orchestra performs a variety of music, including classical and pops. Cascade Symphony Orchestra Rising Star Competition: Open to gifted young musicians, age 15 or younger on the day of the orchestra’s Children’s Concert on Feb. 21, accomplished on viola, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, euphonium/tuba, percussion or harp. Friday Music Jam Sessions: For people with disabilities and their friends, the Village Music and Art’s Friday jam sessions, featuring live music by Jon Dalgarn and Voices of the Village, are 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays at 338 N.
