WENATCHEE — Scientists think an 1872 quake with an estimated magnitude of about 7 was centered near Entiat, not far from the Columbia River at the south end of Lake Chelan.
A crew led by U. S. Geological Survey geologist Brian Sherrod found evidence of the fault earlier this month in an old landslide that the shaking could have caused.
The Wenatchee World reports scientists are waiting for the results of carbon dating and other expert opinions to verify the fault.
The epicenter of the quake is important because it could affect the design of new structures, like bridges and dams, in the area.
