GRANITE FALLS — The new Granite Falls Transportation Benefit District is holding a public hearing Wednesday evening to hear thoughts on a proposed $20 vehicle licensing fee.

The hearing starts at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave.

It’s the benefit district’s first meeting. The five-person Granite Falls City Council serves as the district’s board of directors.

If the board approves the new $20 licensing fee, it would take effect in 2016. When people pay for their new tabs, the extra fee would be added on by the state Department of Licensing. The money would be earmarked for use on transportation projects in Granite Falls’ city limits.

A public hearing is required before the board votes on the new fee.

Written comments can be submitted to City Hall up until 4 p.m. Wednesday to be included in the hearing record. For more information, call 360-691-6441.
