CLEARVIEW — Snohomish County’s major rivers are receding after this week’s surge of rain, but flood-related problems continue.
A man in his 70s was rescued just before 8 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Connelly Road and Elliott Road near Snohomish. His car was trapped in swift-moving flood waters, said Heather Chadwick, spokeswoman for Fire District 7 in Clearview.
A team of rescue swimmers helped the man into a boat, she said. Due to his temperature and age, he was taken to a hospital to be checked.
The Snohomish River crested Wednesday evening but rose and dipped again after dawn Thursday, said Ni Cushmeer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.
As of Thursday afternoon, the water level was just below major flood stage, she said.
The Skykomish and Stillaguamish rivers also were receding.
That is the likely end of this round of flooding, with lighter rainfall expected in the mountains over the next few days.
Between Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, roughly 2 inches of rain fell in the lowlands of Snohomish County, Cushmeer said.
