EVERETT — Double murder suspect John Blaine Reed who was captured last week in Mexico is expected to be in an Arizona courtroom Thursday.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that Reed’s extradition hearing is scheduled for later this week in Pima County, Arizona.
Reed, 53, could fight returning to Washington. If that happens, prosecutors plan to seek a governor’s warrant to extradite Reed to Snohomish County. In that case, prosecutors will have to prove that Reed is the same man facing aggravated murder charges here.
Reed is accused of killing his former neighbors, Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude, over a long-standing property dispute. The Oso couple were reported missing April 11. Their bodies were discovered in a shallow grave May 24. They’d both been shot at close range.
Prosecutors last week charged Reed with aggravated murder. The following day authorities in Sonora, Mexico captured Reed and turned him over to police in Arizona.
