Suspect arrested in Camano Island shooting death

CAMANO ISLAND — An Island County judge ordered a 36-year-old man held on $1 million bail Friday on suspicion of murder.

Ezekiel Scannell-McCrae is accused of shooting and killing Joseph Christopher Hicks, 34. The pair had been roommates in the past along Heather Drive on Camano Island, court papers show. They also reportedly have dated the same woman, who was present during Thursday’s altercation. Hicks died before help arrived and Scannell-McCrae was arrested at the scene.

Scannell-McCrae also is being investigated for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
