Conquer: Evoke your inner Viking at Arlington fest
A Viking Fest and Pub Tour takes place at various locations in downtown Arlington on Saturday and Sunday. A Conquering March kicks things off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday down Olympic Avenue.
Find an authentic Viking village. Shop vendor booths and explore the Sons of Norway Bothell 25-man Viking boat built to scale. A Swedish pancake breakfast runs both days. There will be sword fighting, axe throwing, hair braiding, tug-of-war and costume contests open to all, along with demonstrations, performances and much more.

Chip: Free IDs for pets in Everett, Camano
The Everett Animal Shelter and the Camano Animal Shelter Association each offer free microchips for dogs and cats Saturday.
Everett’s clinic runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 333 Smith Island Road.
CASA’s clinic runs 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the shelter on the corner of East Camano Drive and Can Ku Road, Camano Island.
The free service is for private pet owners. Cats must be over 2 pounds and arrive in a carrier. Dogs must be on a leash.
Also in Everett, pet I.D. tags will be available for a $5 donation to Animal Rescue Foundation of Everett.

Apply: Lynnwood Police offer Citizens Academy
The Lynnwood Police Department is accepting applicants for its 2017 Citizens Academy. Space is limited. Early sign-up is recommended.
The free course runs 7-10 p.m. Thursdays starting Jan. 5. Class activities include a patrol ride-along, a K-9 demonstration, a visit to the detention center, investigating a mock crime scene, and more. Citizens Academy is designed to give the general public a better understanding of the mission and operations of the police department.
A limited number of seats will be awarded to high school senior applicants.

Help: Domestic Violence Services seeks volunteers
Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County holds its next six-week training class for volunteers 5:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 10 to Nov. 14. There also is a class session 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 5. All sessions meet in downtown Everett.
The classes are free to volunteers willing to commit 10 hours of service within a six-month period for the nonprofit. Class topics include an overview of domestic violence, its effects on children, the role of drugs and alcohol, safety planning, legal advocacy and more. Light snacks will be provided at break times.
