Celebrate: Apples, dogs on Whidbey

Historic Bayview Corner will host Apple Day, featuring the annual Mutt Strut dog parade and costume contest, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 5603 Bayview Road, Langley, on south Whidbey Island.

All activities are free, with a charge for food and beverages; the event takes place rain or shine.

Staff from Bayview Farm and Garden will be on hand in the greenhouse pressing apples for fresh cold and hot cider. Dozens of apple varieties will be available for tasting.

The Mutt Strut is at noon, with registration at 11 a.m., with prizes for best dog costume, best owner-and-dog costume combination, best trick, and best celebrity dog.

Other activities include an apple stacking contest, live music, wine tasting, farmers market and more.

Love: Teddy Bear Breakfast coming up

Tickets are on sale through Nov. 8 for Providence General Children’s Association’s Teddy Bear Breakfast. The event is scheduled for 8:30-10:30 a.m. Dec. 3 at the Tulalip Resort.

The holiday event will feature children’s entertainer Tim Noah, an opportunity to view the hospital’s decorated trees, a unique coloring book, raffle and a chance to visit the teddy bear store. Bring your own camera for pictures with Santa.

Proceeds support the health care needs of children in the community. Tickets are $30 each.

Apply: Music grants available

The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation is accepting applications for music grants through Nov. 11.

There are several grants available this year for both middle school and high school students, including home schooled students, who have financial need, who reside within the Stanwood-Camano School District and who have a demonstrated commitment to the field of music.

Write: How to turn memory into story

Learn how to sift through that mental “attic” full of personal experiences to develop stories that engage, educate, entertain and inspire at a “Write Now: Write From Experience” workshop, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W.

Practice generating new material quickly for fiction, articles, promotional pieces or presentations. Learn about the creation and editing stages, and to give and receive constructive feedback.
