Burn: Shed calories before the feast
Several communities plan fun ways to help burn off calories before you even pack them on — and, in some cases, then help to pack them on — on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 24.
Take a look:
YMCA Burn the Bird: Take part in a variety of classes, such as stationery cycling and Zumba dance, 8-10 a.m. at local YMCA of Snohomish County branches. Classes vary by branch. It’s free and open to the public, but some branches require registration. Food drive donations are encouraged.

Turkey Trot, Arlington: The Arlington Runners Club offers a 5k fun run, with pumpkin pie prizes for winners. Registration starts at 8 a.m. in the Arlington Grocery Outlet parking lot, 123 E Burke Ave. Race starts at 9 a.m.

Turkey Trot, Lynnwood: The Robert Burns Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons holds a Turkey Trot 5k to benefit the Lynnwood Food Bank, starting at 8 a.m. The race starts and ends at the Lynnwood Transit Center, 20100 48th Ave. W. Cost is $15, or $20 the day of the event.

Turkey Trot, Mukilteo: More than 1,000 runners have already signed up for this Snohomish Running Club event that will give a limited number of finishers a stretchy prize perfect for the feast: pajama pants. The 5k and 10k runs start and end at Kamiak High School.

Feast: Community dinners dish up turkey
Not everyone has a place to gather to enjoy Thanksgiving. Here are two annual community meals on Thanksgiving day, Nov. 24, where all are welcome to the table:
Edmonds: Westgate Chapel serves its annual free community Thanksgiving dinner, with seatings at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The church is at 22901 Edmonds Way. Traditional turkey dinner, entertainment, drawings, kids crafts and gifts, bingo, family portraits, food and clothing bank, and more. Limited transportation is available by reservation by Nov. 21. No reservations are required for dinner.

Sultan: The festive Harvest Community Thanksgiving Dinner, featuring Santa, games and a traditional feast, runs 12-4 p.m. at Sultan High School, 13715 310th Ave SE.

Compete: Students invited to donate
The Everett Elks invite Snohomish County schools to compete to donate the most new or like-new children’s books and stuffed toys for a holiday drive to benefit Christmas House.
Every stuffed animal will count toward your school total. Books will be weighed and recorded. The top two schools in each category will get a trophy.
If your school isn’t participating, but you still want to help, drop off donations between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Elks Lodge, 2802 Hoyt Ave.
The goal is to collect enough stuffed animals and books for each of the more than 8,000 children served by Christmas House. The all-volunteer nonprofit provides an opportunity for qualifying, low-income families to “shop” for holiday gifts for their children.
