EVERETT — Police in Everett suspect alcohol was a factor in two wrecks that sent three people to the hospital Monday night.
An Everett woman, 53, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of being involved in hit-and-run injury crashes as well as drunken driving.
The crashes occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the 4300 block of Rucker Avenue, according to an Everett Police Department report.
Officers arrived to find a Jeep flipped over on its top in a nearby parking lot and a white car in a northbound lane with heavy front end damage. One driver suffered bruises to the chest. Another was being treated for neck and back pain. A juvenile passenger was taken to the emergency room for a possible concussion.
Witnesses reported that a Chevy Blazer was headed southbound on Rucker in the double turn lane and swerved into the northbound lanes, striking the other vehicles.
The driver continued south but her vehicle became disabled, officer Aaron Snell said.
She reportedly walked away and was taken into custody in the 4500 block of Rucker. A witness identified the woman as the driver.
The suspect “became very argumentative and repeated herself numerous times, stating that she was not driving, she never had any keys because she doesn’t have a license,” according to a police officer’s report.
A set of keys to the Blazer was found in her pocket, the report says.
Police reported that the woman smelled of alcohol and slurred her words.
A sample of the woman’s blood was taken.
Given what happened to the vehicles involved in the crashes, “we are very fortunate that there were only minor injuries,” Snell said.
