Give: Gifts, and gift of time, for foster kids

The Snohomish County Volunteer Guardian ad Litem program seeks donations to help bring holiday cheer to foster children. Donate a new, unwrapped gift, a gift card valued at $20 or more, or make a cash donation payable to the Snohomish County VGAL program by Dec. 21 to Snohomish County VGAL Program, 2801 10th St., Everett, WA 98201.

Volunteers also are needed for the program. Adults age 21 and older are urged to apply to begin the interview process. The next training is set for Jan. 21, 25, 28, and Feb. 1.

More than 600 children still wait for an advocate.

Shop: Several gifts that give twice

There are many ways to shop for gifts this season and, at the same time, benefit local programs, causes and charitable efforts. Some of them are listed inside today’s section in the Community Extra Calendar.

One of the options is at Providence Regional Medical Center gift shops. Volunteers operate the two Everett shops so that all proceeds can go to support the work of the nonprofit Providence General Children’s Association.

The Twig Shop is located in C-Wing Floor 1 on the Colby Campus, 1700 13th St. The Pavilion Boutique is in the lobby of the Pavilion for Women and Children, 900 Pacific Ave. Call ahead for store hours.
