Chug: Model trains at Monroe fairgrounds
The United NorthWest Model Railroad Club holds its annual Washington State Model Train Show and Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe.
Admission is $8, $6 seniors (65 and older) and juniors (ages 10-18), and free for kids 9 and younger with paid adult. Admission is valid for both days. Parking is free. All proceeds go to the Snohomish County 4-H Foundation.

Taste: Clam chowder cook-off
The annual Edmonds Clam Chowder Cook-Off is set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Yacht Club, 326 Admiral Way. Ten restaurants vie for the title of “Best Clam Chowder in Edmonds,” with People’s Choice Awards for best traditional and “cutting edge” chowders as well.
Come, taste and vote. Admission is $10; $5 for ages 5-9. Live music by Strum and kids activities round off the family-friendly event sponsored by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.

Protect: EarthCorps training coming up
EarthCorps has been working with the Port of Everett to restore the Union Slough Salt Marsh for the past several years through the Puget Sound Steward program.
Volunteer stewards work with EarthCorps to keep the marsh healthy, run restoration events, adapt management plans and educate the community. EarthCorps offers training in exchange for a commitment to 25 hours of volunteer time over the following year.
Want to learn more? An informational session is planned for 6:30 p.m. March 15 at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds. Snacks provided.

Apply: Scholarships for women, girls
The Zonta Club of Everett offers several scholarships with upcoming deadlines:
Young Women in Public Affairs, $2,000, for ages 16-19 pursuing a career in leadership through public service or civic causes. Deadline March 1.
Women in Transition, $3,000, for women completing their education to reenter the workforce. Deadline March 31.
AMTEC, $2,000, for students ages 16-19 enrolled at Everett Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Training and Education Center. Deadline March 31.
Jane Klausman Women in Business, $2,000, for women pursuing degrees in business leading to a business management career. Deadline April 18.
Some scholarships offer an opportunity for additional awards at higher club levels.

Sign up: Classes help master aging
The Stillaguamish Senior Center offers a 10-week “Aging Mastery” class series starting March 22. The class, developed by the National Council on Aging, encourages small steps to improve overall well-being. Classes will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesdays.
The deadline to sign up is March 15.
