Dodge: Tournament aids Boys &Girls Club

A dodgeball tournament for adults, to raise money for the Monroe Boys and Girls Club, is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 11 at the club, 261 Sky River Parkway.

Proceeds support programs and scholarships.

The cost to compete is $100 for a team of six players or $25 for single player registration.

File: Free help preparing taxes

There are several free opportunities to get help filing your taxes.

Low-income individuals and seniors can get help by appointment, 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays through April 12, at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W. Register in person at the registration desk.

Edmonds Community College and United Way help U.S. citizens and residents on a drop-in basis, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 2 to 5:30 p.m. Fridays, through April 18, in Mountlake Terrace Hall 206 on the campus of Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood.

United Way of Snohomish County offers free tax preparation for any household making less than $64,000. Help is offered at locations across Snohomish County.

Sign up: Help better feed county’s kids

Do you run a program that fills backpacks with food for kids?

A “Food for Thoughts” event will discuss ways to help schools, churches, food banks and others work together to better feed students from low-income families through after-school and weekend emergency feeding programs.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon March 23 at Swan’s Trail Farm, 7301 Rivershore Road, Snohomish. It is led by the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition, Live Healthy 2020 sponsor Scott Swanson of Campbell’s Fresh, and Deb Anderson of the Foundation for Edmonds School District.

Network with like-minded leaders running similar programs in the county, get tips for practical improvements that can be made right away, discuss challenges, and explore ideas for having an effect on a larger scale.

Trade up: Teens can sample careers that are hands-on

High school juniors and seniors are invited to learn about careers that pay living wages at TradeUP, set for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 4 at the Arlington Airport. Trade UP is a hands-on way to explore trade and apprenticeship opportunities.

Learn how to operate a transit bus, operate crane and excavator simulators, explore a fire truck, and more.

Space is limited to 60 teens, who can each earn a $20 Fred Meyer gift card for completing the program. Prizes will be awarded through a group competition.

The event is free, and lunch is provided.
