Open house: The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society Library has expanded and holds an open house to celebrate, 12-4 p.m. March 18 at 6111 188th Place NE, Arlington. Addiction forum: Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson hosts a “Beyond the Streets Addiction Forum,” 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 23 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave. Panelists will discuss the complexities of drug addiction, the range of treatment options and how the community can best respond. Crazy Politics: Political science professor Cornell Clayton discusses “Crazy Politics: Populism, Conspiracy Theories, and Paranoia in America,” 2-4 p.m. March 25 at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Clayton’s talk explains the rise of today’s populist and conspiratorial politics, draws parallels to earlier periods, and describes how populism on the left and right differ today. Docent naturalist: Adopt A Stream Foundation seeks docent naturalists to give interpretive tours at its Northwest Stream Center in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. This 20-acre natural area gives visitors a view of forests, wetlands, streams, fish and wildlife. An orientation for interested docents is 1-3 p.m. March 20 or 7-9 p.m. March 21. Volunteer: Youthville in Marysville and Everett needs volunteers for its “Incredible Years” programs, which teaches parents how to build good relationships with their children. Tutor: Everett Community College’s Adult Literacy Center seeks volunteers who can tutor adult learners two or more hours per week in reading, writing, basic math and English as a second language. Volunteers must be patient, have good literacy skills and be sensitive to a variety of learning styles and cultural backgrounds. Tutoring times and locations are flexible. Assist cancer patients: The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles and get mileage reimbursement.
