Pharmacy that caters to special needs children opens in Lynnwood

Serk Apothecary, a full-service pharmacy that also caters to special needs children, celebrated its grand opening on April 2 in Lynnwood.

The business is owned by long time pharmacist Serkalem Amede. A variety of hypo-allergenic supplements, therapeutic products, educational materials and resources for children with autism, ADHD and other developmental conditions are offered.

Serk Apothecary is located at 19410 36th Ave. W, Lynnwood.

Lake Stevens resident Gus Pishue has been named as the new managing broker for Re/Max Elite’s Everett office at 2917 Pacific Ave., Everett. Pishue, who is an Everett High School graduate of the class of 1992, started at the job on March 31.

Former Monroe Monitor and Valley News reporter Chris Hendrickson has joined the city of Sultan as a part-time grants coordinator. In addition to applying for grant funding to support city infrastructure improvements and other projects, Hendrickson will help with volunteer coordination, promoting city events and building the city’s social media presence.

Classic Remodeling NW in Everett announced Floyd Gale has been selected as the company’s Employee of the Month for February. He was selected for his work ethic, attitude, and his willingness to continue to learn and grow as a lead carpenter.

Kudos

Washington State University’s lauded Mars Rover Team has earned a spot in the 2017 University Rover Challenge in Utah. It’s the second year the team from WSU’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture at the Everett campus has entered the international robotics competition. Last year, the students earned second place and became the top-placing American team.

The Association of Washington Cities announced that 115 cities, towns, and other local governments, including Stanwood, have earned the distinguished WellCity Award. This recognition is awarded to entities that meet the AWC Employee Benefit Trust’s stringent WellCity standards and demonstrate a commitment to employee health. Stanwood has participated in the AWC Wellness Program for the past six years.

Tuesday, April 4, is the fifth-annual Mayor, County, and Tribal Recognition Day for National Service. The event is an opportunity to celebrate volunteerism and community service. Among those being recognized is the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Snohomish County, a Senior Corps program that supports volunteerism among Snohomish residents 55 years and older.

Good deeds

Providence General Children’s Association has given local organizations a total of $50,000 from the proceeds of its two gift shops and also from its recent fundraising efforts. Those recipients include Mari’s Place, Arlington Kids Kloset, Kloz 4 Kids, Domestic Violence Services, Whidbey Island Nourishes, Housing Hope, Camp Fire and more. The association focuses on the wellbeing of children in the Northwest.

Snohomish Kiwanis has donated $5,000 to the Snohomish High School Fight Against Hunger campaign. The donation will feed up to 20,000 people. Snohomish High School is now $14,000 away from their goal of raising $40,000 and assembling 150,000 meals. The students also have a goal of collecting $6,000 cash for the Snohomish Food Bank. Events

Edmonds Community College will host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 12 at Woodway Hall 202 on campus. More than 40 local employers with full- and part-time employment opportunities will be represented at this free event that is open to the public. The Port of Everett’s Waterfront Place Community Open House is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. April 20 at the Blue Heron room, 1205 Craftsman Way, Everett. On Thursday, April 6, Northwest Dental will relocate its Everett office about a mile south of its current location to 5201 Evergreen Way, Suite B, Everett. The new location will offer the same dental and denturist services. The business, owned by licensed denturist Eric Hansen, has five offices in the Western Washington area: Bellingham, Burlington, Everett, Oak Harbor and Arlington.

The Women’s Funding Alliance’s Political Gender Watch Tour made a stop in Mount Vernon on March 28. The tour is a non-partisan discussion about inspiring all women to stand up, be heard, get involved, and possibly run for office. The event, presented in coordination with Leadership Skagit, featured Mount Vernon Mayor Jill Boudreau, Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick and others.

Last month, Washington’s Office of Financial Management released updated data on median household income for all of Washington’s 39 counties. In 2016, Snohomish County was projected to have the second highest median household income in the state at $77,985. King County leads the state at $84,897. In the last 10 years, Snohomish County’s median household income has grown 22 percent.

This month, local sales tax rates increased for a number of communities in Snohomish, Pierce and King Counties. This included the new rates authorized by voters last year to expand Sound Transit service. Tax rates for communities in the Sound Transit service area will increase by five-tenths of 1 percent.
