Cancer fundraiser

A silent auction to benefit the American Cancer Society is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in the lobby of Providence Regional Cancer Center, 1717 13th St., Everett. Free popcorn for shoppers. Winners will be called for item pick-ups, or buy at full price and take home the same day. For more information, call 425-418-0423.

Disaster prep: The city of Everett plans a meeting for community members interested in taking part in and learning about updates to the city’s hazard mitigation plan. The Everett Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Management is leading the effort with the goal of reducing risks from hazards improve the city’s ability to withstand major emergencies. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Horizon Elementary School, 222 W Casino Road. RSVP to Sarah LaVelle at 425-257-7965 or slavelle@everettwa.gov.

Road work: Plans continue on improving 36th Avenue W, Lynnwood’s so-called “rollercoaster road.” The city now is negotiating property purchases for the right-of-way. About a mile of the route is getting a new road bed. Construction is scheduled to start next year. The stretch of 36th north of 164th Street SW is within Snohomish County’s jurisdiction, and the county also plans work there in the years ahead.
