A local Block Watch group led by Bill Cross and Sam Cheyne for a second year cleaned up woods near Marshall Elementary School in Marysville. This year, the volunteers performed the service as a way to also raise awareness of Lewy body dementia, with which both men have been diagnosed.

Lewy body dementia, also known as dementia with Lewy bodies, is the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease dementia, according to the Mayo Clinic. Lewy body dementia causes a progressive decline in mental abilities. Other effects include Parkinson’s disease-like symptoms such as rigid muscles, slow movement and tremors.
