DARRINGTON — A man was airlifted to a Seattle hospital Wednesday after his truck crashed and rolled into a tree stump on a logging road northwest of Darrington.

The man was driving around 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Forest Service Road 18, a winding mountain route north of Highway 530. He crashed just north of the Snohomish-Skagit county line. He suffered serious internal injuries, said Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Rochon.

A helicopter rushed the man, 43, to Harborview Medical Center. He is from out of state, Rochon said.

The one-lane gravel road often has heavy logging traffic, and forks off to the Segelsen Ridge snowshoe trail.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
