FCCLA students come home with medals

Students from Lake Stevens High School and Henry M. Jackson High School came home with medals from the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) national competition, held over the summer.
The Lake Stevens club was recognized with the 2017 National Career Connection Award.
Among individual awards, recent Lake Stevens graduate Jacob Anderson won a gold medal and placed first nationally for the club’s chapter website.
Grace Fortney competed in “Recycle and Redesign” — where she took broken glass, parts of a bed frame, and cardboard to create a beautiful waterfall scene picture — and received gold and first place.
Taylor Garcia and Meraiah Medellin earned gold and first place for their display on FCCLA programs.
Graduates Lauren Lindbloom and Carlos Rojo earned a gold medal for a chapter service project display and finished in third place nationally. Their project was a peer education program to help eighth- and ninth-graders find success in high school.
Maleah Plank competed in National Programs in Action and earned gold and third place with her project, “Aim to Survive: Don’t Text and Drive.”
Savannah Pratt and graduate Destiny Otusanya also each earned gold medals in FCCLA events.
From Jackson, students Stephen Nguyen and Jose Coronado earned a gold medal for their advocacy project that focused on helping students who recently immigrated to the United States adjust to high school.
