The farm and forestry conference is Nov. 1. (Focus on Farming)

MONROE — An annual fall-time farm and forestry conference features talks by an agriculture economist and an author who writes about making a comfortable living from agriculture.

Snohomish County’s 14th Focus on Farming is scheduled Nov. 1 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. It includes Focus on Forestry workshops about managing woodlands. This year’s theme is “Ideas to Grow With.”

Keynote speaker Dr. John Ikerd is an agriculture economist who’s scheduled to give a talk on the status and future of local foods. Another, author Ben Hartman, is set to discuss methods for efficient, profitable farming from his book “The Lean Farm.”

Ag topics this year include an indoor farming technique known as aquaponics, soil building, jam-making and the “joys of farming with spreadsheets.” The conference also features a trade show with products from tractors to greenhouses.

Registration is open.
