Mark 125th anniversary of ‘The Nutcracker’ with Olympic Ballet

Olympic Ballet Theatre presents its annual production of “The Nutcracker” this week in Everett and next week in Edmonds.
Led by talented artistic directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev, a married team of former Pacific Northwest Ballet dancers, the nonprofit Olympic Ballet Theatre has established an exciting version of Tchaikovsky’s ballet.
New sets designed by Phillip Lenau and Jeanne Franz will help celebrate 125th anniversary of the ballet, which premiered in St. Petersburg Russia in 1872.
Gorboulev and Vinson include humor in their choreography and the company’s dancing always is delightful.
For Snohomish County families who enjoy a live, full-length performance of a traditional version of “The Nutcracker,” Olympic Ballet Theatre does a good job.
In fact, when one considers the cost of parking in Seattle and ticket prices for Pacific Northwest Ballet’s (albeit wonderful) version, Olympic Ballet is a remarkable deal. The cheapest PNB tickets are $29; the most expensive OTB tickets are $38 in Everett.
In Everett, an abridged version for young children is offered at 10 a.m. and noon Dec. 8. Regular full-length performances are 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 9, and 1 and 5 p.m. Dec. 10, all at Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.
In Edmonds, an abridged version is offered at 10 a.m. and noon Dec. 14. Full-length performances are 7 p.m. Dec. 15, 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 16, and 5 p.m. Dec. 17, all at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N.
