The city of Lynnwood’s utility charges will go up again Jan. 1. The City Council last year adopted a rate plan with annual increases through 2022. Assistance may be available for struggling households.

Council appointment nears
The Everett City Council has been reviewing applications from 29 people interested in the council seat being vacated by Mayor-Elect Cassie Franklin. The names of applicants are posted online at tinyurl.com/Council122017.
Additional candidates applied after the initial deadline was extended.
All the candidates will have five minutes to speak at Wednesday’s council meeting. Council members then will narrow the list to six or fewer finalists. The finalists will be interviewed at a public meeting set for 3 p.m. Jan 3. Whomever is appointed likely would be sworn in next month and would serve until late 2018.

Seniors can volunteer with RSVP
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), sponsored by Catholic Community Services, seeks people ages 55 and older for a variety of volunteer positions, such as drivers, peer-to-peer counselors, student mentors, food bank workers and more. Volunteer locations are across the county with varying days and times of commitment.
