Haiku, art contests
The Arlington-Stillaguamish Eagle Festival is coming up Feb. 3. Annual contests have deadlines before the big event.
The Nature Haiku contest is open to all Snohomish County residents, from kindergartners to adults. The top prize in each age category is $50. Follow the non-rhyming 5-7-5 pattern on a nature theme. Submit poems by midnight Jan. 29 at www.arlingtonwa.gov/haikucontest or mail to City of Arlington, Recreation, 238 N Olympic Ave., Arlington, WA 98223.
Another contest seeks the best eagle photography. Photographers may enter up to two photographs. The entry fee is $5 per photo. The winning entry receives $200 and is featured on the festival poster.
Artists of all ages also can submit a variety of nature-themed art — $5 per entry, up to four entries per person, including eagle photos — for a chance at a People’s Choice $200 prize. Children’s entry fees are donated to the Arlington Community Food Bank.
Art contest entries — open to Snohomish County and Camano Island residents — must be dropped off between noon and 6 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Olympic Theater, 107 S Olympic Ave.

Donate to book sale
The Friends of the Edmonds Library seeks donations to its ongoing book sale, including gently used books, CDs, videos, DVDs, sheet music, magazines and computer software. Sale proceeds benefit library programs and a scholarship fund. A drop box for donations is in the foyer of the library, at 650 Main St. Pick-up service is available for large donations.
