MLK Day event on Whidbey

The Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) will present “The Right to Dream,” a production about the struggle for civil rights in the United States, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Performed by Living Voices, a Seattle historical theater troupe, the drama honoring Martin Luther King Jr. features solo performances and archival film. It focuses on an African-American student coming of age in Mississippi in the 1950s and ’60s.

Tickets $15 for adults, $10 for ages 18 and younger. The center is at 565 Camano Ave., Langley.

Little science for littles

Mariner Library holds a “Little Science Lab” at 11:15 a.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 17, 24 and 31, in partnership with the Imagine Children’s Museum. These 30-minute weekly science, technology, engineering and math programs encourage preschool-age children to explore the world around them. For ages 3-5 years.

Space is limited to 30 children at each class. The library is at 520 128th St. SW.

Valentines for veterans

Camp Fire Community Club in Everett invites families to join its Teens in Service Club, which will lead a “Valentines for Veterans” activity to create valentines for hospitalized veterans. The Salute to Veterans event is set for 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at Camp Fire, 4312 Rucker Ave., Everett.

Blood drives coming up

January is National Blood Donor Month. The American Red Cross seeks donations to address the winter shortage, especially types O negative, B negative and AB.

Get tax help at Camano Center

The Camano Center is taking appointments now for visits with AARP Tax Aides, who will be at the community center (606 Arrowhead Road) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 1 to April 12. Free tax preparation help is available, in particular to those older than 60 and those who cannot afford paid tax preparation.
