Snohomish High School has hired Joey Hammer as its head football coach, according to Panthers athletic director Mark Perry.

Hammer was Monroe’s defense and special teams coordinator for the past three seasons. Before that, he was an assistant at Snohomish for two years.

Hammer graduated from Snohomish in 1998. He’s been the head track and field coach at Snohomish’s Centennial Middle School since 2010.

“He’s a known commodity in terms of our community and program,” Perry said. “His experience, (previous) leadership roles, and his ability to connect with players and parents (stood out). He’s looking to run a disciplined program and (emphasize) character-building.”

Hammer replaces Kai Smalley, who resigned after the 2017 season after five seasons at the helm.
