Ayla Chau, of Granite Falls, was named the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County 2018 Youth of the Year at an awards ceremony Feb. 6. Chau was selected from 16 nominations from clubs in Snohomish, Island and Kitsap counties.
The Granite Falls Boys & Girls Club is one of 24 clubs under the Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County umbrella. The Snohomish County group awarded a total of $7,500 in scholarships to participants.
Chau, 16, has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club for three years. She is a junior at Granite Falls High School, where she takes honor courses, and also takes classes at Everett Community College through Running Start.
Last summer, she volunteered 150 hours with her club.
“I love my Boys & Girls Club,” Chau wrote. “It’s a place where it doesn’t matter how I fit in at school or where I live. My club is a place where personality and kindness are the most important traits.”
