Monroe police are investigating a burglary with a weapon after a 62-year-old Edmonds man, working at a tobacco shop, was injured while trying to stop a male from stealing a carton of cigarettes Tuesday night. (Monroe Police Department)

MONROE — An Edmonds man working at a tobacco shop was hurt after trying to stop a man from stealing a carton of cigarettes Tuesday night.

Monroe police reported that two young men entered the Cigar Q store before one exited as the other went to the counter. The 62-year-old clerk grabbed a carton of cigarettes and placed them on the counter.

The person still in the store grabbed the carton and ran out. He got into a black Mercedes with a female driver waiting outside. The clerk ran out after them and tried to stop them from leaving but was struck by the vehicle and fell to the ground.

The clerk was transported to EvergreenHealth of Monroe with a cut to the hand and facial injuries. The suspects were not found.

The case is under investigation.
