Village Theatre: Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave.; 425-257-8600 or www.villagetheatre.org/everett. The season concludes with “Hairspray,” which opens July 6. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national TV, dethrone the reigning teen queen, win the affections of the local heartthrob, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do. The Tony-winning musical teaches us to look past skin color and size in the fight for equal rights. Tickets are $70 general, $65 seniors and $55 youth.

Summer Shorts: Laugh out loud with Summer Shorts, featuring seven 10-minute comedic plays by local playwrights. Shows are July 20-29 at The Phoenix Theatre, 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds, and Aug. 3-12 at the Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Tickets are $20. Red Curtain: The Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave., Suite J, Marysville (in the Goodwill shopping center, behind the Everett Community College cosmetology school). Star Trek meets Shakespeare in the new play “M’aQ’betH,” opening July 27. Alex DeRoest and Nick Poling, the masterminds behind “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” and “The Adventures of Lewis and Clark,” have adapted Shakespeare’s play into a Klingon one. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 adults, $15 seniors, students and military. The 2018-19 season is as follows: “Something’s Afoot,” “Peter and the Starcatcher,” “Silent Sky,” “The Addams Family” and “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily.” Season tickets, for all five main-stage shows, is $120 general and $108 seniors, students and military.

The 2018-19 season includes “The Underpants,” “Twist of the Magi,” “Ripcord,” “Women in Jeopardy” — plus a comedy that has yet to be named. Season tickets, for all five performances, are $110 for adults, $98 for seniors, students and military.

YOUTH THEATER

Ludus Performing Arts: Snohomish County PUD Auditorium, 2320 California St. Everett; 425-239-6627; www.ludusperformingarts.org. The youth theater company performs Monty Python’s “Spamalot” at 7 p.m. July 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28, 2 p.m. July 14, 15, 22 and 28. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” the comedy musical retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French taunters. Tickets are $12 to $20.

“Shrek the Musical”: The Edmonds Driftwood Players Teen Troupe presents the musical based on the movie “Shrek” July 20-22 at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds. Performances are 8 p.m. July 20 and 21, and 2 p.m. July 21 and 22. A green ogre finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a fiesty princess who resists her rescue in this fairy tale of misfits. Tickets are $15. The award-winning musical, “Bring It On,” running July 12-22, is inspired by the hit film. When a star cheerleader gets transferred to an inner-city school without a cheer squad, she befriends the tough and hardworking dance team to try to prepare for the ultimate competition — the national championships.

DANCE

Ho’ike: Celebrate 11 years of hula and aloha with the 11th annual Ho’ike at 4 p.m. on July 8 at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. Featuring the dancers of Hula O Lehalani and the live music of Kupono. Tickets are $12. “Ho’ike” means show or display in the Hawaiian language and is a time for dancers and musicians to exhibit all they’ve learned. More at www.edmondscenterforthearts.org.

COMEDY

Tony V’s Garage: Monday Night Comedy is a weekly comedy showcase and open mic at the garage, 1716 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Features regional comedians working out their longer sets and local amateurs trying new material. Next showcase is July 2. No cover. Sign up at 7:30 p.m.; show is at 8 p.m.

Everett Comedy Night: Emory’s on Silver Lake, 11830 19th Ave. SE, Everett, hosts a second-Sunday monthly comedy night with Cory Michaelis. Tickets are $10. The evening begins at 8:30 p.m. and features touring and local comedians. To reserve a table, call 425-337-7772. Next show is July 8.

Tim Noah’s Thumbnail Theater: The Thumb hosts Crackpot Comedy Cavalcade 7:30 p.m. July 14 at the theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. This family-friendly sketch and improvisational comedy is titled “The Evolution of a Comedy Troupe.” Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children.
