Washington reaches female hoops title game at Special Olympics

SEATTLE — Team Washington advanced to the Special Olympics USA Games female basketball title game with a 24-14 semifinal win over Southern California on Wednesday at the University of Washington.
Washington will face Texas for the gold medal at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at UW’s Alaska Airlines Arena. The Washington team includes four players from Snohomish County: Agwin Atem (Everett), Melanie Hernandez (Everett), Uzo Okoro (Edmonds) and Crystal Yetter (Edmonds).
The Washington volleyball team earned 2-0 wins over Michigan and North Carolina to finish pool play with a 6-0 record. Washington has won 12 of 13 sets and is the top seed heading into Thursday’s semifinals. The Washington team includes five Snohomish County players: Stacey Conser (Lynnwood), Andrea Hall (Marysville), Marcus Hall (Marysville), Jeff Kirby (Everett) and Roland Kirby (Marysville).
Christopher Linnell, of Lynnwood, won a gold medal in the long jump. He placed first out of three athletes in his division with a jump of 1.35 meters.
