Make an ArtBot
Kids going into grades 3-6 can use an electric toothbrush, a pool noodle and markers to make an “artbot,”3 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Branch Library, 9512 Evergreen Way, Everett. Flip a switch, and watch it draw a unique piece of artwork. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Have a reluctant reader?
Book Buddies is a summer reading program that pairs trained teen volunteers with young children who are “reluctant readers.” The program is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays starting this week at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd. Registration is required.

Play with slime
Slime is all about touch. But kids can explore how slime can sound at “Slimes that Rock,” 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Marysville Library (6120 Grove St.) and 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lakewood-Smokey Point Library (3411 169th Place NE, Arlington). Drop in and add different objects into ready-made slime to change what you hear. For ages 5 and older.
Then, explore chemical reactions as you transform two regular liquids into an oozing batch of slime at “Playing with Polymers,” 11 a.m. July 30 at the Sultan Library, 319 Main St.

Korea honors U.S. vets
Korean War veterans might be eligible for the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal, a commemorative medal given as an expression of appreciation from the Korean government. Those who served in Korea between June 25, 1950, and July 27, 1953, are eligible.
A presentation with the Consul General of the Republic of Korea is planned for 11:30 a.m. July 23 at Northwest Church, 19820 Scriber Lake Road, Lynnwood. RSVP is requested by July 15.
Veterans should respond with full name, branch of service, dates of service in Korea, mailing address and the name of their guest for the luncheon to jenniferm@dva.wa.gov or 360-725-2169.

ORCA cards now free for seniors
Seniors ages 65 and older or disabled residents who qualify for an ORCA Regional Reduced Fare Permit can now get their first card at no charge. The reduced fare program, and ORCA LIFT card for income-eligible riders, provide a savings of 45 percent or more on transit fares. The card is accepted by Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Pierce Transit, Sound Transit and Washington State Ferries.

HEADS UP
Stop work order
After unpermitted work began at a site near the Snohomish River and U.S. 2, the city of Everett recently issued a stop work order to Interwest Construction Inc. According to the city, the company was stockpiling dirt and other material, crushing of rocks and making concrete before the proper permits were obtained.
