Burn ban begins
Snohomish County has joined a host of others in Western Washington enacting outdoor burn bans as warm, dry summer weather arrives.
Outdoor burning will be banned in all unincorporated areas starting Friday, except for small recreational fires.
In King County, a burn ban will take effect Saturday in all unincorporated areas, where all outdoor burning will be prohibited except for small recreational fires in established pits.
Counties including Whatcom, Kitsap, Skagit, Pierce, Island, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Mason and Pacific have all enacted similar burn bans that have started already or will take effect by this weekend.

Local groups plan sales
It’s not all junk, and it’s not all in trunks. But it’s Junk in the Trunk time Saturday to benefit local senior and community centers.
Camano Island: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Brats, hot dogs and a beer garden, too
Lake Stevens: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lake Stevens Senior Center, 2302 Soper Hill Road
Marysville: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Marysville Municipal Court, 1015 State Ave.
WAYS TO HELP
Volunteer to scrub pups
The Camano Animal Shelter Association seeks volunteers who love dogs to help with its annual Dog Wash on Aug. 18. Dog washers and dryers are needed. Experienced volunteers will be there to help first-timers.

Grow produce for food banks
Project Harvest now has a food bank mapping tool to help home gardeners or orchardists donate excess produce.
Also, it’s not too late to join the Plant a Row Campaign. Plant a row for the local food bank and the Snohomish Conservation District will send you free seeds to get started.

Assist cancer patients
The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments.

MEETING
Rezone old stadium in Monroe
The Monroe School Board will hear from a land-use consultant about options for a potential rezoning of Marshall Field and Memorial Stadium, 5 p.m. Monday in the performing arts center at Monroe High School, 17001 Tester Road. The public is invited to attend to ask questions and share comments. No decisions will be made. The original high school stadium is at Columbia and Kelsey streets, across from what is now the Sky Valley Education Center.
