Ready for kindergarten?

The Mukilteo Library hosts a four-part “Ready for Kindergarten” session to help prepare young ones who will start kindergarten this fall.

There will be mock class time, complete with “lunch” and homework.

The first session is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday . Others are scheduled for July 25, Aug. 1 and Aug. 8.

Kla Ha Ya Days is nearly here

The Snohomish community festival Kla Ha Ya Days kicks off Wednesday with a carnival at Harvey Field. The circus comes to town Thursday.

Other events include a Frogtastic Kids Fair on Friday at Snohomish Station, the parade and street fair Saturday downtown, and a car and motorcycle show Sunday, also downtown.

Who’s trilling those summer serenades

The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project hosts a “Birds of Summer” presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Island County Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive, Camano Island.

Figure out who’s been serenading you at dawn, or get help identifying that yellowish-greenish bird in your alder trees, with birder and author Joe Meche.

Hear local pianists at upcoming recital

The Seattle Piano Institute hosts a free 2018 Showcase Recital at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington.

Hear from the institute’s most advanced students, including David Lee, of Snohomish.

Students from around the world auditioned for the intensive 10-day curriculum.

Enjoy Coffee with a Cop at Starbucks

The Everett Police Department will be at Starbucks at the Green Tree Plaza on Thursday.

Drop in between 10 a.m. and noon to chat. The coffee shop is at 515 SE Everett Mall Way.

Police, firefighters to battle on soccer field

The public is invited to watch and cheer as Mill Creek police and Snohomish County Fire District 7 go head-to-head in a soccer match to raise money for Kiwanis International’s Camp Casey.

The game is at 6 p.m. Thursday at Arena Sports, 13500 Bothell-Everett Highway in Mill Creek.

The chief of the losing team will take on some of the opposing chief’s duties.

The charity soccer match honors Julia McCauley, who recently finished second grade at Mill Creek Elementary School and was the Mill Creek Police Department’s honorary Chief for a Day. Julia attends Camp Casey, a summer camp for children who have physical disabilities.

Event sponsor Arena Sports will donate 20 percent of its proceeds during the event time from games and activities to Camp Casey.
