EVERETT — Robinson Cano was batting second and back at his familiar position at second base Friday night when the Everett AquaSox beat the Eugene Emeralds 5-2 in the second game of a four-game series at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Cano singled to left field on a 1-1 count in his first at-bat off Eugene starter Paul Richan, and grounded out to shortstop to end the third inning in his second turn at bat.
In his third at-bat, with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Cano flew out to center field against Eugene reliever Mitch Stophel.
Cano saved his best for last, clubbing a grand slam home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Sox a 5-2 lead. It was his second homer since joining the Sox.
Cano also flashed his Gold Glove defensive ability, snaring a hard-hit grounder in the second inning and flipping it behind his back to shortstop Ryne Ogren to start a double play.
Connor Kopach replaced Cano at second base to start the eighth.
